Nachdem mich nun schon so viele auf unseren Umzugs-Stand angesprochen haben moechte ich hier mal ein kurzes Update geben.
After a lot of people asked me how we are doing with all the moving-stress I decided to give you all a little update.
Ehrlich gesagt ist noch nicht wirklich viel passiert:-). All zuviel Stress werde ich mir dieses mal auch nicht machen. Das war im letzten Jahr sehr schlimm und ich durfte damals das meiste alleine machen. Dieses mal laeuft das anders. Das, was ich bzw wir nicht erledigt bekommen bleibt eben erstmal liegen und unsere Packer haben einiges zu tun. Aber - dafuer kommen sie ja und in Mainz werden wir dann Ende Juni wieder genug zu tun haben, fuer alles einen Platz zu finden. Das wird was!
Ich habe die Koffer der Kinder gepackt. Mehrere male bereits und sicherlich noch nicht das letzte mal. Da wir eine Woche ohne Moebel und dergleichen hier in Culpeper leben werden, muss doch einiges hier bleiben und dann auch mit in den Koffern nach Mainz. Somit packe ich eben alles ein paar mal um bis alles passt. Heute werde ich versuchen, meinen Koffer in Angriff zu nehmen. Insgesamt werden wir sicherlich mit mind. 6 Koffern in Frankfurt landen. Hinzu kommt das Reisebett von Klara, ihr Buggy und der Autositz.
Warum so viele Koffer? Nun, unsere Luftmatratzen, auf denen wir ja hier als auch in Mainz erstmal schlafen, nehmen sehr viel Gewicht und Platz in Anspruch. Dann ein paar Laken und vielleicht doch zwei, drei Kissen und schon ist dieser Koffer voll. Dann werde ich, genau wie bei unserem Herflug, einen Koffer mit Spielsachen richten. Ich moechte nicht alles in mein Handgepaeck stopfen - sofern das ueberhaupt ginge und ich kann mir sicher sein, dass Klara dann auch in Mainz einiges an vertrauten Dingen bei sich hat. Tja...vier Personen plus die beiden Extrakoffer - schon sind wir bei 6. Allerdings weiss ich noch nicht, ob das wirklich langt und muss testen.
Duane hat gestern und vorgestern unsere Gardinen und Gardinenstangen abgehaengt und bereits die meisten Fotos und Bilder. Dann hat er an seinem freien Tag Montag schliesslich die groessten Bohrloecher (Nagelloecher) zugeschmiert und das sieht doch gleich recht gut aus. Aber irgendwie auch komisch so ganz "nackig" ohne all das vertraute Zeugs:-).
Klara und Gabriel habe ich diese Woche bei Sonnenschein den Buggy und das Fahrrad putzen lassen. Es darf ja kein Sand, Erde oder sonstiger Dreck an den Sachen sein. Also heisst es putzen:-). Sie hatten Mordsspass.
Duane took the curtains down and most of our photos and pictures. When he was off Monday he started to fill the holes in the walls and it looks pretty good already. Also kinda strange without all the things we love and like. I had sent Klara and Gabriel outside some time this week to clean the babystroller and his bike. The things are not allowed to have any dirt or sand on it. So - that means cleaning:-). Both had lots of fun doing it.
Ich wollte eigentlich viele Sachen aussortieren und nicht mehr mit nach Deutschland nehmen, aber dazu komme ich irgendwie nicht so wirklich und mein Mann laesst sich nur schwer dazu begeistern. Nun ja...ein bissl was habe ich geschafft an Kleidung auszulesen und in grossen Saecken haben wir das in einen der vielen Second Hand Laeden gebracht. Es handelt sich hierbei um einen speziellen "Thrift-Store" in Culpeper. Man gibt die Sachen (Kleidung, Moebel, Spielzeug, Geschirr...etc) dort ab und die verkaufen es fuer sehr sehr wenig Geld an Leute, die es eben auch nicht so dicke haben. Wir gehen dort selbst gerne hin. Aber mehr um nach Moebeln und dergleichen zu stoebern. Manchmal gibt es in dem Store wirklich ganz tolle alte Moebelstuecke und so haben wir vor einigen Monaten ein ganz tolles altes Holzschaukelpferd fuer Klara ergattert. $5 hat das gute Stueck gekostet und es ist massives Holz und in dieser Art findet man heutzutage nichts mehr. Seit einer ganzen Weile sind wir hier auf der Suche nach einem guenstigen Bollerwagen. Wir haben schon so einige gesehen, die uns gefallen wuerden aber unglaublich teuer und das ist bei uns ja nicht wirklich drin. Dann haben wir mal wieder etwas im Thrift Store abgegeben und laufen durch die Moebel"abteilung" .... steht da doch ein Bollerwagen zum Kauf. $25 haben wir bezahlt und er erfuellt genau unsere Zwecke - ist nicht nagelneu...aber funktioniert und was will man da mehr.

I wanted to get rid of some of the things we have downstairs but I don't really find the time for it. Well a few clothes I packed up in bags and we took them to the Thrift Store in town. It isn't a Good Will or anything like that. It is the Thrift Store of the city of Culpeper. So the money they make there - stays there and stays in Culpeper for the people that need it. That's important to me. We love this store. They have nice furniture there some times and a couple months ago we found a nice wooden rocking horse for Klara. It is a great one. It cost us just $5. Then - just this week - we dropped more clothes off and walked around. While we were looking at some furniture...guess what we saw?! A Wagon! Just what we were looking for. We have been looking for one like this for quite some time but they were to expensive for us. And now we found this used Wagon for $25. Just the right size and exactly what we need and want.
Ich hoffe, dass ich das wichtigste zusammenpacke und nichts vergesse. Am Freitag kommt mein Schwiegervater und meine Schwaegerin nochmal zu Besuch. Ich hoffe, dass ich dann trotzdem noch ein paar Dinge erledigen kann. Wir werden den beiden unsere gesamten Elektrogeraete mitgeben. Also die, die wir in Deutschland nicht nutzen koennen. So bleiben diese in der Familie und das ist gut zu wissen.
I hope I don't forget anything important. Friday Pap and Renee will be here for the weekend. I do hope I still get some things done then. They come over for a last visit and to pick up all of our electronic stuff we can't use in Germany. It makes no sense to take all that with us and they will give the things to the family. So - we know the right people will get the things and that's good to know.

To be honest - not much:-). But I am not getting all crazy about it anymore. I was trying to but I am not in the mood to do it all by myself again (Duane is still working). I had to do most of it by myself the last year. Whatever we don't get done stays that way. The packers get to do more. But that's why they are coming and what they get paid for. I am pretty sure we will be very busy whenever our stuff arrives in Mainz.

Well I have already packed the kids' suitcases. I am pretty sure we will end up with at least 6! I am trying to get mine packed today. It isn't so easy because I am trying to think about the stuff we need during the week we will be in Culpeper AFTER our furniture and everything else has left. I have to pack the suitcases a few times to make sure everything will fit the best way.
We also have to pack the air mattresses and some sheets and maybe/hopefully two or three pillows will fit. We will see. But there we are with 5 suitcases already. Then I do get a small one ready with toys for Klara. It isn't possible to make it all fit in my handbag and to take it on the plane with me. And I did that last year as well. It was a good idea and it is nice for the baby to have some things around her when we get to Mainz. Things she loves and knows. So many new things will be there and I like to know she has her loved toys with her.
So we already have 6 suitcases here now and I am not sure if that will be it. We also have to pack her travelbed and the carseat and her babystroller. We bought a cheap small one here some weeks ago - it isn't so big and heavy as her regular one but good enough to get through the airports.
