Diesen Nachmittag waren wir im Volkspark. Es war sehr schönes Wetter und mit dem Wasserspielplatz dort ist das eine tolle Sache. Es war auch gar nicht so voll wie ich dachte und so war das eine prima Sache. Wir ergatterten sogar noch einen Platz im Schatten.

Für alle Mainzer, die hier lange nicht mehr waren (besonders Martina) - es hat sich hier sehr viel verändert. Der Wasserspielplatz ist nicht mehr, was er mal war und das Café im Park hat auch neue Besitzer und soll nun "familienfreundlich" sein. Getestet haben wir das noch nicht aber es sieht ganz nett aus.

This afternoon we went to the Citypark. It was very nice weather and with the waterplayground there it is a great thing to do with kids. It wasn´t as busy as I thought it would be and it was just nice. We even got a place in the shade.

To all people who know it - it has changed a lot!! The waterplayground ain´t the same and the café in the park has new owners. They want to make it more "family friendly". We didn´t check this out but one of these days I am sure we will.

Die Westernbahn im Park /

Durch den Park fährt eine kleine Westernbahn. Schon seit ich denken kann ist es dieser kleine Zug, der seine Runde durch den Park zieht. Es ist für die Kleinen eine goldige Sache und für die, die den Park nicht kennen sicher eine schöne Art ein bissl die Gegend zu erkunden bevor man es abläuft:-).

There is a little western train in the park. Since I can remember it has been here and this little train goes a big circle through the park. It is a great thing for the little ones and for those who don´t know the park a way to see how big it is and what to find here before you walk around:-).

Den Nachmittag verbrachten wir im Volkspark. Er ist ja nicht weit von uns entfernt und eigentlich leicht zu Fuß erreichbar. Da Gabriel sich aber ein Picknick gewünscht hatte und wir wirklich bepackt waren wie die Großen musste das Auto her:-).

This afternoon we spent at the park. It isn´t that far away from where we live and you can easily walk to it. But since Gabriel asked for a picknick we were packed and had to take the car:-).

Natürlich musste das mitgebrachte auch vertilgt werden und da machten wir uns dann mal ran. Es gab belegte Brötchen, Gurken- und Cheesesticks, Tomaten, Fleischwurst und und und! Verhungern hätte glaub ich keiner müssen. Das einzige, was ich als sehr schlimm empfand waren die Wespen hier. Wir hatten nichts Süßes mit und schon kamen sie in Scharen. Da macht das natürlich nur noch halb so viel Spaß.

We brought a lot of stuff with us and we had to get started to get rid of it:-). We had sandwiches, cucumbers- and cheesesticks, tomatoes, some special kind of lunch meat we have in Mainz and so on! I think nobody should have left hungry. The only thing I didn´t like were all those wasps. We didn´t have anything sweet with us and still they were flying around like crazy.

Ich muss hier wirklich mal etwas loswerden. Ich bin super stolz auf meinen großen Sohn. Er ist ein ganz ganz toller großer Bruder. Andere 12 jährige nehmen sich garantiert nicht so viel Zeit für ihre kleine Schwester. Er macht wirklich so viel mit ihr, das ist mir manchmal schon unangenehm. Aber es macht ihm Spaß und die beiden sind ein Herz und eine Seele. Auch hier im Park war er mit ihr ständig unterwegs. Ball spielen, im Wasser spielen, rutschen und im Sand spielen. Bei letzterem habe ich ihn allerdings abgelöst, denn das verstehe ich schon, dass das einem Preteen nicht wirklich Vergnügen bereitet.

I really need to say something here. I am very proud of my son. He is such a great big brother. It is unbelievable. Other 12 years old won´t spend so much time with their little sister like he does. He is doing so much with her and they love each other to death. Here in the park they were playing ball, went to the water or the slide together and he played in the sand with her. Well I took his place in the sand after a while because I understand that is not really what a 12 year old loves to do.

Wildpark / Animalpark in Gonsenheim

Animalpark Gonsenheim

Gestern morgen hatte ich Lust, mal wieder nach Gonsenheim zu fahren. Über ein Jahr ist es her, dass wir hier waren und ich liebe diesen kleinen Wildpark. Schon als ich klein war gab es ihn und es macht einfach Spaß. Es ist kostenlos und in einem großen Kreis läuft man und kann verschiedene Tiere beobachten, anfassen und auch füttern. Dafür stehen Automaten dort wo man sich das Futter ziehen kann. Eine tolle Sache und die Kinder hatten wirklich sehr viel Spaß. Wer natürlich Angst hat, dass seine Kinder von Ziegen oder Rehen abgeschleckt werden, für den ist das dann nichts:-). Doch dazu gehöre ich nicht.

Yesterday morning I really wanted to go to the Animalpark in Gonsenheim. Gonsenheim is a little town which belongs to Mainz and is not far from where we live. It has been more than a year since we had been there and I love this place. When I was a little one we came here and had a good time. It doesn´t cost anything and you walk around different kind of animals in a big circle. It is beautiful. The kids are allowed to feed the animals and can touch them. There are machines where you can get the food out. If you are one of the parents that don´t like it when kids get licked by goats or deers ... then this place isn't something for you:-). But thank God I am not like that.

Für die, die unseren Blog von Anfang an lesen - es gibt schon einmal Bilder von einem Besuch im Wildpark. Auch damals haben wir diesen Hirsch füttern dürfen und hatten schon unseren Spaß. Wenn das Kerlchen nämlich seine riesen große Zunge durch den Zaun schiebt wird es einfach nur noch lustig. Wenn ihr auf die Fotos klickt und sie Euch groß anseht, sieht man das wirklich sehr gut:-).

To those who are reading our blog from the beginning - there are some pictures from this park already. Back then we were able to feed this deer as well and had lots of fun. When this little boy sticks his tongue through the fence - that is fun. Click on the pictures if you want to and you can see it pretty good:-).

Ich dachte, ich gebe mal einen Einblick was wir hier so in Mainz treiben. Wir haben sämtliche Kisten ausgepackt und die Wohnung ist fertig. Auch hier gibt es ganz bald Fotos - versprochen!! Ein Blick in unseren Hinterhof bekommt ihr jetzt schon. Wir haben einen ganz tollen - die, die ihn kennen können das sicherlich bestätigen. Es gibt einen Sandkasten und viel Wiese und Platz genug für die Kinder, sich auszutoben.

I thought I give you guys an idea what we are doing here in Mainz lately. We got every single box unpacked and the apartment is ready and set. I promise - we will publish some pictures soon. But I think you will get a little idea of our backyard now. It is a great one - those who know it I am sure they agree! We have a sandbox and lots of grass to play around and room for the kids to do lots of things.

Wir haben uns vor zwei Wochen einen Tisch für draußen gegönnt, nachdem meine Eltern uns ganz überraschend einen sehr schönen Sonnenschirm geschenkt hatten. Jetzt können wir schön im Hof sitzen und die Kinder beobachten:-)!

We bought us a nice table for outside after we got a nice sun-umbrella from my parents. It is a very nice orange one. Now we can sit outside and watch our kids:-)!

Einige der Kinder, die hier im Block wohnen haben ihre Spielsachen draußen stehen. Dazu gehört dieser tolle Bagger/Traktor, der Klara wirklich super gut gefällt.

Wenn das Wetter schlecht ist, was die letzten Tage wirklich des öfteren so war, dann beschäftigt sich mein Sohn sehr gerne mit Zeichnen. Er zeichnet vieles was in der Wohnung so rumliegt oder Kuscheltiere von seiner Schwester oder eben auch so ein "gruseliges" Schädelgebilde:-)...ich finde es ja super Klasse!

When the weather is bad, as it is the last days, my son loves to draw. He draws whatever he can find. Toys, Teddybears and other things and .. those "scary" skulls:-)...I think it is great!

Die vergangene Woche war unser Papa einige male Geocachen. Das ist ja sein Hobby und nicht immer kommt er dazu oder nicht immer lasse ich ihn:-). Aber wenn es die Zeit erlaubt, dann geht er schon ganz gerne mal los. Öfters alleine aber die letzte Woche hat Gabriel ihn einige male begleitet und war ganz stolz, dass er auch einen "Schatz" gefunden hat. Dann gab es sogar einen Nachmittag an dem wir alle mal wieder mit sind.

Last week our Daddy found time to do some Geocaching again. It is his hobby and he doesn´t have the time or sometimes I don´t let him or don´t give him the time..I keep him busy:-). But whenever the time is right for it he is going out a little bit. Last week even Gabriel joined him a few times and was very proud when he came back because he found some "caches". AND - there was one afternoon last week - when we all went caching with our Daddy.

Hier sieht man Duane, wie er verzweifelt einen Schatz sucht. Da er schon ne Weile gesucht hatte, gesellte sich dann auch noch ein anderes Pärchen dazu, welches ebenso auf Caching-Tour war. Leider haben sie es auch zu dritt nicht finden können. Hinterher kam raus, dass der Schatz dort nicht mehr liegt.

Wenn Papa sucht, liegt es an Mama die Kinder ein wenig zu beschäftigen. Daher sitzen sie hier zusammen auf dem Fahrersitz und spielen ein bissl Auto fahren.

Kinderarzt / Pediatrician

Vor 2 Wochen waren wir das erste mal wieder bei unserem Kinderarzt in Mainz Hechtsheim. Wir durften noch zur U7 und da war ich wirklich sehr erleichtert. Es war super. Klara war ganz toll und tapfer!

Unser eigentlicher Doktor war bereits in Urlaub. Aber sie hatten eine ganz tolle Vertretung. Ein älterer Arzt, der bereits im Ruhestand ist, hat sich bereit erklärt die Praxis für eine Weile vormittags offen zu halten, was in der Ferienzeit wirklich eine tolle Sache ist. Er war sehr lieb - das fand auch Klara.

2 weeks ago we went to the pediatrician here in Mainz again. They were able to do the checkup #7. In Germany we get a yellow book for the kids. During special months or years you need to see a doctor who checks on the kids behavior, health and how they grow. Everything gets checked out and I think it is a great thing to do. They get their shots then as well.

Klara was doing great that day and we were really proud of her.

Our doctor was already on vacation but a retired one helped them out during that time and Klara really liked him. So did I.

Sie musste ein paar Tests mitmachen und Mama einige viele Fragen beantworten. Aber ihre Entwicklung ist prima und durch die zweisprachige Erziehung fällt sie bei manchen Leuten natürlich etwas mehr auf:-). Der Arzt sprach zwischendurch mit ihr mal Englisch und auch hier reagierte sie brav und tat wie ihr geheißen. Das macht einen als Mutter natürlich stolz. Als es dann schließlich an die Impfung ging war ich gespannt. Aber sie machte nicht einmal "piep!" und zeigte später ganz stolz ihr Pflaster.

She had to do a few tests and Mum had to answer a couple questions. But she is doing great and people are surprised about her when they realize she speaks and understands two languages. The doctor even spoke english with her and she did what she was told. Makes you really proud as a mother:-).

She even got a shot and I was wondering how she would react. But she didn´t cry or anything and I think that was great. She showed her bandaid later - all proud!

Pfirsiche / Peaches

Vor kurzem waren die Pfirsiche in Oma´s Garten reif. Super lecker und das fanden sicherlich nicht nur die Kinder so.

A while ago all the peaches in Grandma´s garden were ready to eat. They were really yummy and I am sure not only the kids loved them.
