Am Samstag war es soweit. Wir mussten unseren Papa verabschieden.
Saturday was THE day. We had to say good-bye to our daddy.
Die Tage vor der Abreise waren sehr sehr stressig und es lief mal wieder vieles schief für uns. Ganz oben auf der Problemliste steht nach wie vor unser Auto. Schon traurig wenn man sich auf angebliche Freunde nicht verlassen kann und man von diesen auch noch gelinkt wird. Aber wir geben nicht auf. Ich glaube, wir sind "unkaputtbar":).
The days before he left were really busy and stressful and of course nothing worked out for us again. On top of our list is our car - still! It´s sad when you can´t even trust "friends" and when they try to screw you. But we don´t give up. We are "unbreakable":).
Nachdem am Freitag alles chaotisch ablief, packte Duane doch tatsächlich erst am Samstag morgen. Mein Mann hat wirklich die Ruhe weg, das ist beneidenswert! Um halb acht ging es dann los. Wir vier zogen Richtung Südbahnhof und zur S-Bahn. Pünktlich um 8:05 Uhr ging es los und um 8:45 Uhr hatte Duane eingecheckt und die Koffer abgegeben.
After the Friday was really messed up Duane packed his stuff Saturday morning before he had to leave. My husband is really something:) - he still wasn't a bit nervous or at least didn't show it if so. 7.30 am we had to leave and the four of us walked down the hill to the south train station. At 8.05 we got on the train and 8.45 am Duane had checked in at the airport.
Wir hatten somit noch gut Zeit und versuchten die letzten Minuten zu genießen. Wir gingen im Flughafen frühstücken.
Es war eine komische Stimmung zwischen uns allen. Jeder wusste, was bald passieren würde und keiner wollte drüber reden oder es aussprechen. Kurz bevor wir dann zum Gate gingen trafen wir doch tatsächlich Meggy in der großen Flughafenhalle. Sie war die einzige die es zum Abschied nehmen nach Frankfurt geschafft hatte. Ich war ein bissl enttäuscht, denn ich hatte versucht mehr Leute nach Frankfurt zu bekommen um Duane einen schönen Abschied aus Deutschland zu bereiten. Aber das war nix. Leider. Er wusste davon ja nichts und umso größer war seine Freude als er Meggy und Philipp sah. Das war aber auch wirklich klasse von euch beiden! Tausend Dank dafür!
We had enough time and tried to enjoy the last minutes together. We had breakfast at the airport.
It was a strange situation for all of us. We all knew what would happen in a bit but none of us wanted to talk about it. Before we made it to the gate we met Meggy. Meggy is an old friend of mine - we know each other since 1st grade. She was the only one who made it to the airport and I was a bit disappointed. I had sent sms' to a few other friends to get them all to the airport but no one else showed up. Well it was sad but the good thing was - Duane didn't know about it and so he was really happy when he saw Meggy and her son Philipp. That was really great - thanks a lot to you two.
Dann ging es langsam zum Gate und der Abschied war greifbar. Wir standen irgendwie alle hilflos und sprachlos herum und als es dann soweit war flossen die Tränen. Mir schossen sie ja gleich in die Augen als ich Tschüß sagen musste und als Duane Klara das letzte mal auf dem Arm hielt. Es war schon eine sehr schwierige Situation. Gott sei Dank ist die Kleine noch zu klein um das bewusst wahr zu nehmen. Anders mein Großer. Gabriel traten zuerst die Tränen in die Augen und als er Duane noch mal drückte weinte er wirklich bitterlich. Das erweicht jedes Herz und auch unserem Papa kamen die Tränen. Sicher, es sind "nur" 2 Monate. Aber da wir noch nie voneinander für so eine lange Zeit getrennt waren ist es einfach schwer.
Then we walked slowly to the gate together. We were standing around helpless and speechless and when it was time for our dad to go in, the tears were running. When I had to say bye they came right away and when Duane was holding Klara the last time...no way to stop it. It was really a hard moment for us. Thank god Klara is still a little one and didn't really understand what was going on. But Gabriel did and this was bad. He was crying so bad ... even our daddy had to cry. Of course we will be separated for "only" 2 months - but we've never been apart from each other since we've met and that doesn't make it easier.
Gabriel beruhigte sich erst am Nachmittag. Die ganze Zugfahrt zurück nach Mainz war er am weinen und es fiel mir sehr schwer stark zu bleiben.
Gabriel didn't calm down until the late afternoon. The whole time on the train back to Mainz he was crying and it was hard for me to stay strong.
Die Stimmung ist eigentlich erst besser, seit sich unser Papa telefonisch dann gemeldet hatte. Er ist sehr gut angekommen und es hat alles gut geklappt. Das Mietauto war am Flughafen und auch im Hotel war alles gut. Das Wochenende haben wir wirklich oft miteinander telefoniert. Duane hat sich dort schon ein wenig umgeschaut. War im Aldi:) in Woodbridge und hat schon in der Zeitung ein paar Anzeigen für doch recht günstige Wohnungen gefunden. Heute ist nun sein erster Arbeitstag und wir sind hier alle gespannt, wie der neue Job für ihn sein wird. Wir fiebern seinen Anrufen entgegen und können es kaum erwarten von ihm zu hören. Unter der Woche wird es allerdings schwer sein voneinander zu hören. Die Zeitverschiebung von 6 Stunden klingt nicht arg viel, ist aber doch zu viel um das alles unter einen Hut zu bekommen. Nichts desto trotz werden wir das alles schaffen. Daran glaube ich ganz fest.
Our mood got better when our dad called us. He had made it to Virginia and everything went well. The rental car was waiting at the airport and he made to the lodging on base just in time. That weekend we talked pretty often on the phone. Duane was looking around overthere a bit to get an idea and he even went to an ALDI:) in Woodbridge. He also got newspapers and started looking for apartments. Today is his first day at work and we are all excited and nervous how it will be for him. We can´t wait to hear from him and to hear all the details. The time difference from about 6 hours doesn´t sound that much but it is. Specially with the kids and all the things we all have to do. But we will make it.
Gabriel ist eine große Hilfe. Die letzten 3 Tage war er eine wahnsinnige Stütze und hat mir viel geholfen. Ich hoffe, das hält an:). Aber er macht seine Sache großartig. Er ist ein ganz toller großer Bruder, der mir die Kleine wirklich oft abnimmt und sich mit ihr beschäftigt, so dass ich mal duschen kann oder auch anfangen kann etwas zu packen. Denn .... es sind nur noch 3 Wochen bis wir verpackt werden und die Tage fliegen dann nur noch so dahin.
Gabriel is a big help. The last 3 days he was amazing and helped me all the time. I hope it will last:). But he's doing it really good. He is a great big brother who takes care of his little sister a lot and that way I can take a shower or can start packing some things. Because in about 3 weeks the packers will come and the time is flying by.
