Gerade aufgestanden erfreuten wir uns an der weissen Pracht. Klara - noch im Schlafanzug - musste gleich ihre Fingerchen in den Schnee stecken. An ihrem Gesicht abzulesen - Schnee ist kalt!!We just got up this morning and got surprised - everything was covered and white. Klara - still in her PJ's - had to touch some of that snow outside. It 's easy to tell by her face - Snow is cold!!

Ueber nacht hat es wirklich sehr heftig geschneit. Strassen und Autos waren heute morgen noch komplett dicht. Bei diesem Wetter ist hier natuerlich keine Schule und Duane, der eigentlich um 3.30 heute morgen haette losfahren muessen ging auch nicht zur Arbeit.
Hier in Amerika gibt es kein "Hitzefrei" aber dafuer "Schneefrei" oder auch bei evtl. anstehendem Eis oder generell ueblem Wetter bleiben die Schulen eher mal geschlossen. Dies ist vor allem fuer die Kinder, die weiter ausserhalb wohnen, wichtig. Dort werden die Strassen und Wege selten wie gar nicht geraeumt - da haben wir hier noch Glueck. Zwar dauerte es hier auch eine ganze Weile bis mal ein Raeumfahrzeug durchkam aber immerhin kam eines.
Over night we got quiet some snow. The roads and cars were covered when we got up. The schools were closed today and Duane, who was supposed to leave at 3.30 am didn't leave the house either.
Different to Germany the schools are closed when the weather is as bad as it was this morning. Or when they call for ice or other bad weather. In Germany we don't have that. The kids go to school no matter how the weather will be. They might get lucky and are allowed to go home a bit earlier during the day in summer time - when it gets to hot. But this doesn't happen very often.

Natuerlich haben die Kinder ihren Spass / Of course the kids are having fun
Aber komischerweise immer nur unsere Kinder. Die Nachbarskinder sieht und hoert man gar nicht - obwohl ja schulfrei ist. Finde ich eigentlich sehr schade, denn was gibt es denn schoeneres als Schnee? Auch im Sommer war das hier ja so. Selten sieht man die Kids draussen spielen. Sicher ist es im Sommer sehr heiss aber jetzt mit dem Schnee bietet sich das doch an. Nun ja ich habe dafuer gesorgt, dass unsere Kinder auf alle Faelle an die Luft sind und den Schnee genossen haben bevor er wieder weg ist.

I think this is kinda sad because what is more fun than playing in the snow? Even in summer time you didn't see many kids outside. Of course it is hot then but now with all this nice snow...! Oh well I made sure our kids went outside and enjoyed the fun before it is gone again.
