Bei den Appalachen handelt es sich um ein Mittelgebirge das sich durch Ostamerika erstreckt. Im ganzen ueber 2.400 km lang.Von Maine bis in den Sueden hinein gibt es einen Wanderpfad. Ein Teil des Gebirges laeuft durch Virginia.

Lizzy kam auf die Idee, den Appalachen Pfad zu erkunden bzw ausfindig zu machen. Wir wussten zwar, dass dieser nicht allzuweit weg von uns sein sollte aber so einfach war es dann erstmal doch nicht. Schliesslich fanden wir ihn und starteten los. Es ist ein schmaler Trampelpfad - als mehr wuerde ich es nicht bezeichnen, der quer durch den Wald und ueber die Berge fuehrt. Wir setzten Klara in den Buggy und los ging es. Das Wetter war leider nicht so wirklich gut. Es war stark bewoelkt und ziemlich schwuel.
Lizzy came up with the idea to find the Appalachian Trail. We knew it is somewhere around here but to actually find it wasn't that easy at first. But we finally made it and started right here. Klara was sitting in her Baby Stroller. The weather wasn't that great. It was cloudy and humid.

Viel breiter wurde der Pfad nicht und je hoeher wir kamen umso schwieriger wurde es fuer uns mit dem Buggy durchzukommen.
The Trail didn't get much wider and better. Unfortunately it got pretty rough and we had a hard time pushing Klara in her Stroller.

am Wegesrand / along the Trail
Am Wegesrand gab es natuerlich einiges zu sehen. Pflanzen, die ich so vorher noch nicht gesehen hatte und Bezeichnungen, die ich ebenfalls noch nie gehoert hatte. So wird diese Pflanze hier zum Beispiel "Mayapple" ( =Maiapfel ) genannt.
Along the Trail we found a lot to see. Flowers and plants I have never seen before. This plant up here is called "Mayapple" and I had never heard that before.

Noch ein bissl weiter als zu diesem Felsen haben wir es mit unserem Klaerchen geschafft. Dann gaben Duane und ich auf. Es hatte keinen Sinn, Klara weiter ueber den teilweise schwierigen Pfad zu schieben - laufen haette sie es nicht koennen. Also kehrten wir drei zum Auto zurueck und Gabriel lief mit Lizzy und Darren noch ein Stueckchen weiter.
Die folgenden Bilder hat dann auch mein Sohn gemacht und ich finde sie wirklich sehr gut gelungen.
We made it a bit further than these big rocks here but then we had to give up. It was impossible to push Klara on this Trail. So the three of us went back to the car and Gabriel kept going with Lizzy and Darren. So the following photos were all taken by my son and I think he did a great job.
Die folgenden Bilder hat dann auch mein Sohn gemacht und ich finde sie wirklich sehr gut gelungen.

Das Wetter war sehr seltsam. Vor allen Dingen war es Zeckenwetter, was Duane und mich schon etwas nervoes machte. Gott sei Dank hatten wir vier Kopfbedeckung mitgenommen und - ausser unserem Papa - lange Hosen an. Bereits kurz vorher hatte Duane eine Zecke am Bein entdeckt.
Unterwegs hatte Gabriel eine auf seiner Jeans und auch Darren fand so manche auf Shirt und Hose. Wir hatten Klara in eine Decke eingewickelt und Duane, der geschoben hatte, schaute immer wieder nach, dass sich nicht eine auf oder in den Buggy verirrt hatte. Mir war nicht sehr wohl dabei und als wir uns trennten beschwor ich Gabe, keine Kappe abzunehmen und vorsichtig zu sein. Vor allem nicht in die Buesche und vom Weg abzukommen. Es war wirklich extrem. Spaeter, als alle wieder zu den Autos zurueck kehrten, fand Duane eine Zecke auf Darrens Ruecken (unter dem Shirt).
The weather was strange. But it was Tick weather - that's for sure and it got Duane and me a bit nervous. The four of us had hats with us and long Pants and Shirts on. I am glad we did. Before we even started the Trail Duane found a Tick on his leg. Walking up the Trail we saw a lot of Ticks. Gabe had one on his Jeans and Darren found some as well on him. We had Klara covered in a blanket and Duane, who was pushing her, stopped every once in a while to make sure there were none in or on her Stroller. When we walked back to the car I made sure to tell Gabe NOT to take the hat off and NOT to leave the Trail or going into the bushes. When everybody got back to the cars later Duane found a Tick under Darren's Shirt.
